How Our Desert & Camel Trek Management System Works

During our camel treks, each participant carries a bag of water and a few dry fruits, while our experienced guides manage all logistics, including setting up the evening camp and preparing meals. The trek is a true camel caravan adventure, offering a serene experience in the desert, free from the noise of modern life. Here’s a breakdown of a typical day on a camel trek:

  • Morning: Wake up, enjoy a hearty breakfast, and prepare your belongings.
  • Departure: While the guide loads the camels, the group sets off on foot with an escort.
  • Daily Trek: Walk for 4 to 6 hours, with the option to ride a camel if you need a break.

Lunch is usually shared with the caravan, but in some cases, the group may enjoy lunch separately. Our camel drivers take breaks along the way and often share a meal, which can include a variety of delicious dishes, green tea, and seasonal fruits. Meals are typically served in oases or under the shade of tamarisk or acacia trees, providing a peaceful setting for rest.

Throughout the journey, you may encounter desert nomads who are happy to share tea with you. As the day comes to an end, we set up camp where you’ll enjoy a campfire, traditional Bedouin music, and an awe-inspiring view of the stars in the clear desert sky. It’s an experience you won’t soon forget.

The best time to hike and walk with camels in Morocco’s desert is between October and May. The daytime temperatures range from 15°C to 35°C, while nighttime temperatures range from 9°C to 15°C, creating ideal conditions for long treks and hikes. Experience the desert as the ancient caravan routes once did, with peace and tranquility all around you.

When to Take an Overnight or Multi-Day Camel Trek in the Moroccan Desert

You can embark on an overnight camel trek in Morocco’s desert throughout the year, with departures from Zagora or Mhamid. However, for a multi-day camel trek, we recommend traveling between early October and the end of April. This period offers the best weather conditions for trekking and hiking in the desert.

During this time, the daily temperatures remain comfortable, ranging from 29°C to 32°C in the warmer months (April and October), and the cooler temperatures at night fall between 18°C and 20°C. To protect yourself from the sun, we suggest wearing long, light clothing, and bringing a turban (at least 2 meters in length) and sunscreen, especially if you have sensitive skin. Be aware that by the end of April, temperatures can rise, reaching up to 40°C during the day, so be prepared for the heat.

Health and Safety Guidelines for Camel Treks

All of our camel treks are subject to changes based on weather conditions, such as drought or floods. The daily distance covered is typically around 20 kilometers, which is equivalent to about 5 hours of walking. However, this may vary depending on the hikers' endurance, the availability of water sources, and any specific requests from the participants.
